1. Idiots...
...should never be allowed to drive! Seriously.
On Saturday evening, i was cruising down Lornie Road, with my entire family in the car,
when some idiotic driver made an abrupt swerve round the U-turn we were approaching,
and i had to slam the brakes with all my might in order to avoid a head-to-head collision.
Fortunately, in my mum's words,
one: I wasn't speeding,
two: I am a good driver with the ability to react quickly,
three: The vehicles behind were not tail-gating us, and (most importantly...)
four: Both my grandfathers were watching over us (because we had just gone to pay our respects to them earlier in the day).
Whatever the reason, i was deeply relieved that an accident was avoided. However, the incident rendered me speechless for several minutes after, and it took a while for me to calm my nerves. I never want to go through another traffic accident again, ever. And i hope that all the idiots on the roads vanish forever!
2. On March 22, 2009...
I turned TWENTY-SEVEN!
A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who remembered, who sent me messages,
who emailed me, who came to see me, who bought me presents, who had me in your thoughts! I love everything i received :)
3. Thank You, Boss.
It's that time of the year again...these couple of days, following the government's announcement that civil service salaries may be reduced, i overheard many office conversations hovering around the subject of performance bonuses and worries of pay cuts for public officers in SLA.
Today, i received a pleasant surprise.
Having only joined the organisation in January this year, i knew that i wasn't eligible for the performance bonuses or merit increments to be disbursed. So when my boss walked over to my workstation to hand me the long white envelope, i was stunned for a moment. Then, when she told me that her recommendation for me to receive a pro-rated merit increment had been approved by the management, i wasn't sure at all how to react.
After years of being taken for granted previously, the feeling of being appreciated was very new to me. Today, when my boss thanked me for being a good employee and for having worked so hard in the past two months (months, not years, mind you!), i could feel her sincerity, and i was touched.
Thank you, Irene.
4. She Is JUST A Dog. NOT!
Today, after i told my colleagues that i will not be able to join them for an expensive buffet dinner this Friday because i had to keep Fluffie company, one of them finally asked
"WHY DO YOU LOVE YOUR DOG SO MUCH? SHE IS JUST A DOG!"
(Okay, i know some of you are thinking that i asked for it, but shhhh...)
I shrugged my shoulders and smiled, because i knew that nothing i said could convince them that Fluffie is NOT just-a-dog. She has magical powers :)
Then, when i came home and opened my mailbox, i read an email that had the following quote in it: Pets may not be our whole lives, but they make our lives whole.
I realise that only people who have had pets before can fully comprehend the meaning behind the quote, and i agree with it wholeheartedly. Right now, i cannot imagine life without Fluffie. In fact, i cannot imagine how i ever survived without her in the past!
Some time back, a friend, whose dog had passed on, told me that she would never have another dog again, because it would be too excruciating to re-live the pain of losing her first dog. I understood what she meant, because it is the same thing i fear every day.
But in my heart, i know that when the time comes, when both Chloe and Fluffie have to cross the RAINBOW bridge to get to Heaven (because ALL dogs go to Heaven!), i will want to have another dog.
Just. Because. Life. Can. Never. Be. The. Same. Without. One.
It is not easy to be a good owner to a dog. Dogs give us unconditional love, as long as we give them a little love. How many humans can do the same? Every day, i remind myself to love Fluffie a little more so that i deserve her a little more. So, if any of you are planning on getting a dog, ask yourselves not whether the dog deserves to have you, but whether you deserve to have the dog.
